Follow these guidelines when dealing with a water damaged iPhone.

Keep in mind that your iPhone recovering from an unexpected swim depends on the details of the exposure.  But first and foremost, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TURN YOUR PHONE ON after it is exposed to liquid. IF THE PHONE IS ALREADY ON ATTEMPT TO POWER IT OFF. Most generally your phone will short out on its own moments after being severly exposed.  Light to moderate exposures may or may not cause the phone to short. We know that it is only natural that you will want to turn the phone on and see if it is going to work but if you can resist the urge, it can increase the chances of survival.

DO NOT PLUG YOUR PHONE INTO A CHARGER, OR YOUR COMPUTER.  Doing so can be as fatal as turning the phone on. The electrical current can cause severe damage if any moisture remains inside the phone.

REMOVE YOUR SIM CARD. Doing so will allow you to use your Sim card in another telephone while you attempt to dry your phone out and allow for an additional opening to assist in the drying process. Be sure to dry the SIM card before putting it in another phone.

LIGHTLY WRAP YOUR PHONE IN A PAPERTOWEL AND SEAL IT UP IN A ZIPLOCK BAG FULL OF UNCOOKED MINUTE RICE. This will assist in drawing the moisture out of the phone.

The next best step is to contact an iPhone repair provider.  The phone really needs to be disassembled to completely dry and the board cleaned and treated to neutralize contaminants. If the phone is not dissasembled the drying process can take months, and contaminants can corrode the circuitry over time causing a phone that appeared to survive liquid exposure initially suddenly fail.

Following these steps greatly increases your iPhones chances of surviving liquid exposure.  If you would like your phone serviced after Water Exposure please contact us here
